A new solar farm is planned near Sheerhatch Wood that could generate enough renewable energy to power around 15,000 homes each year. The project would have a capacity of 49.9MW, along with a 15MW battery to store excess energy during the day and release it when demand is higher.

The site has been carefully chosen as it’s flat and not within any protected landscape, making it well suited for solar development.

Consultation update

The official consultation has now closed, but the application won’t be decided until January 2026 — so you can still share your views.

If you’d like to support the project, you can email planning@bedford.gov.uk with the reference 25/01030/MAF, along with your name and address. Supportive comments will still be considered.

What you could mention:

  • Clean, renewable energy for local homes

  • Helping meet net zero targets

  • Community ownership opportunities

  • Local investment through a community benefit fund

Every message helps, so if you support the project, it’s worth taking a couple of minutes to get involved.
